CITY OF MODICA (TOUR)
City of Neolithic origin, Modica is the historical capital of the territory almost corresponding to the Free Municipal Consortium of Ragusa. Until the nineteenth century it was the capital of a county that has exerted a wide political, economic and cultural influence, so much so that it has been counted among the most powerful feuds in the south. As the legacy of a lost political centrality, it remained the fourth most important city in Sicily (after Palermo, Catania and Messina) until the first half of the twentieth century and is a fundamental point of reference for the south-east of the island.
Modica boasts a rich repertoire of gastronomic specialties, the result of the contamination of the different cultures that have dominated it; It is mainly known for the production of typical Aztec derived chocolate.
The beach of Calamosche
It is located between the archaeological remains of Eloro and the wildlife oasis of Vendicari. The charm of the beach is due to the variety of vegetation and the presence of an equally varied landscape: the small beach is in fact between two rocky promontories that, in addition to so that the sea is almost always calm, offer the visitor an unexpected beauty. Another feature of the beach is the presence of numerous ravines, cavities and caves in the two promontories.
The Scala dei Turchi AGRIGENTO
It is a rocky wall (cliff) that rises above the sea along the coast of Realmonte, in the province of Agrigento. It has become over time a tourist attraction both for the singularity of the cliff, white in color and the peculiar shapes, and following the popularity acquired by novels starring the commissioner Montalbano written by the writer empedoclino Andrea Camilleri, in which such places are cited country commissioner, to be framed with Porto Empedocle.
The ancient name of the village was Mazzarelli, which derives from the ArabicMarsa A'Rillah, signifying a small port. At the end of the 16th century, theTorre Cabrera was built next to the old port for defensive purposes, and a residential complex had already formed a few decades later; but this did not prosper and did not grow much (also due to the nearby marshes at the mouth of the Irminio river drained in the 19th century) and its fortune came only at the end of the nineteenth century, when the pitch stone trade was born with the English and carob.
In 1928, by the will of the fascist hierarchy Filippo Pennavaria, the name was transformed into the current Marina di Ragusa. After the war period Marina di Ragusa experienced a real housing boom, due to the unleashing of the fashion of the "second house by the sea" by the inhabitants of Ragusa; this expansion continues today and has led the village to become a first class seaside resort.
It is the oldest district of the historic center of Ragusa, also called only Ibla or, in Ragusa dialect, Iusu (or lower Ragusa, to distinguish it from the upper one). It is planned in the eastern part of the city, on a hill that goes from 385 to 440 m.
After the earthquake of 1693, the ancient city of Ragusa was rebuilt by implementing sites that produced works, buildings and monuments of late Baroque taste. In it there are 14 of the 18 monuments of the city of Ragusa, now inscribed in the heritage of humanity.
The ancient city contains over fifty churches and numerous Baroque palaces. In the eastern part, there is the Ibleo Garden and there are also the excavations of an ancient city that according to several historians would be identifiable with the Hybla Heraia.
In 1866 the district became administratively detached from the rest of the city, becoming an autonomous municipality with the name of Ragusa Inferiore, a name it maintained until 1922 when it was changed to Ragusa Ibla. In 1927, on the occasion of the elevation to the provincial capital of the city of Ragusa, the two municipalities were reunited.
Ragusa Ibla is also home to some important events and ancient traditions such as Ibla Buskers, Ibla Grand Prize, the feast of the patron saint of Ragusa S. Giorgio and the Holy Week, lived by the numerous Confraternities around devotion, always alive for centuries for the Blessed Virgin Sacramento exposed in forty hours at the Cathedral of San Giorgio.
TOUR CITY OF PALERMO Palermo is the capital of Sicily.
The Cathedral of Palermo, from the twelfth century, houses royal tombs,
while the imposing Teatro Massimo neoclassico is famous for opera
Also in the center are the Palazzo dei Normanni,
a royal palace dating back to the ninth century,
and the Palatine Chapel, with Byzantine mosaics.
The crowded markets include the central street market Ballarò
and la Vucciria,
near the port.
The Roman Villa del Casale is a late antique building, popularly called a villa despite not having the characteristics of an out-of-town Roman villa but rather of an imperial urban palace, whose remains are located about four kilometers from Piazza Armerina, in Sicily. Since 1997 it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The discovery of the villa is due to Gino Vinicio Gentili, who in 1950 undertook the exploration following the reports of the locals. Based primarily on the style of the mosaics, the discoverer first dated the sumptuous house - built on an older farm - not before the middle of the fourth century; subsequently the same scholar assigned the villa to the tetrarchic age (285-305). According to Ranuccio Bianchi Bandinelli the villa dates back to the first twenty-fifth century of the fourth century. Examinations on the walls have dated the villa and the mosaics themselves to a succession of times that goes from around 320 to 370.
